The Engine What's behind every matchup grade ▾
Not a cheat sheet and not a gut read. Every grade is a true head-to-head — your player's unit against the exact unit he's facing this week — built from PFF grades, FantasyPoints advanced data, and Vegas. A dozen-plus inputs per matchup, scored the same way every single week, so when it says Elite, it earned it.
Quarterback
- Passing grade vs the exact coverage unit he's throwing into
- Protection vs their rush — a weak-link read (your softest tackle vs their best edge)
- Designed QB-run vs their defense against the run
- FantasyPoints: points allowed to QBs, and his own EPA under pressure
WR & TE
- Receiving grade vs the coverage he actually draws — the alpha pulls the shadow corner
- His quarterback's own matchup spot
- FantasyPoints: opponent CB fp/target + receiving allowed to his alignment (slot vs outside)
- Man-vs-zone fit — does he beat the coverage this defense plays most?
Running Back
- Rush grade vs their run defense
- Your offensive line's run blocking vs their front
- Run-scheme fit — his gap/zone tendency vs how they defend it
- Plus his receiving matchup, weighted by how much he actually catches
Defense (DST)
- Your defense vs their offense, grade for grade
- Takeaways you force vs the giveaways they cough up
- Pass rush vs their protection
- Vegas points implied against them + the QB they're facing
And underneath all of it: every grade is a snap-weighted blend of this year and last — this season takes over as the sample grows — low-snap backups are regressed to the mean so a three-snap cameo can't fake an elite number, and the Elite → Awful tier runs off the same cutoffs every week.
